LAND RECORDS
1886 Government Land Sales Index

A MUST FOR ANYONE RESEARCHING THE COUNTY'S
ORIGINAL HOMESTEADERS

This 64-page set of indexed plat maps are printed on 11 x 18" sheets.  It was created by the Springfield Federal Land Office for the County of Douglas in July 1886, less than three months after the county's courthouse burned along with all land records.  The Land Office created a plat map for each of the townships/ranges in the county, and entered on each parcel the original land holder who obtained from the land from the U.S. Government.  The date, type and number of the patent is included on the maps.  (NOTE: The maps do not show any land transactions from the original patentee and subsequent owners.  After the courthouse fire in 1886, these subsequent owners were encouraged to re-record their purchase at the new courthouse, but many of these transactions are lost).

Order the 1886 Government Land Sales Index for $15.00 plus $3.00 Shipping from the Society.
